Hello, first of all thank you for taking time out to find out about my story and me.
In my simplest form, I am a very happy but rather undomesticated wife and busy mum of two teenagers, who is addicted to health and happiness.
Although it hasn’t always been that way, I guess I am not your standard “Health Guru” because although my path to wellness was paved with good intentions it hasn’t all been smooth sailing.
As a teenager I was overweight, I loved anything coated in sugar and was allergic to exercise, a gut busting combination.
In my late teens and twenties my party gene really kicked in and late nights, booze and thrills were my gods!
So it’s no surprise I hit thirty with a slow metabolism and a hormone cycle resembling a roller coaster.
Desperate to manage my weight and regain my self-confidence I was constantly on a diet and a slave to the morning weigh in that would set up my mood for the day.
I did body pump, spinning and aerobics regularly and thought I was doing all the right things but was left feeling so frustrated that all my efforts just never seemed to pay off.
It wasn’t until after the birth of my second child when we moved to Spain that everything finally started to fall in to place.
Still about a stone overweight I nervously walked in to a new gym and got stuck in. I really, really enjoyed it, and I was finally seeing the changes in my body to show for my efforts. When my instructor left (one of the best instructors I have every come across, I have to say! Thanks for that Sharon James!) she suggested I get qualified and take over her classes.
I nervously “jumped” at the chance and the rest as they say is history!
10 years, a few books, 1000’s of happy women and a lot of learning later I now empower professional men and women to become the very best version of themselves, physically, emotionally and mentally.
My thirst for knowledge leads me to work along side some of the most successful names in my industry.
I have been mentored by and interned with some amazing coaches that have helped me become the coach/mentor/trainer/speaker I am today.
I feel so lucky that my passion, purpose and career are so entwined.
My fat loss principles are simple
My health and fitness regime looks very different now.
In my 40’s I am well aware of the need to look after yourself Mind, Body and Soul which is why I founded MiBoSo Life a coaching company working with individuals & corporates to empower people to become the very best version of themselves they can possibly be.
My story isn’t quite over yet …
Once back in the UK my business and career really took off in a big way. I felt invincible, I loved what I was doing and how I was feeling. I just couldn’t get enough.
So the late nights, early mornings and go go go attitude seemed all part of the ride and even though I was talking to my clients about “overwhelm” and “burnout” I never applied it to myself.
I remember the day I realised something had to change, I was in the gym at the beginning of another heavy strength session that my body and my mind were desperate not to do, life had been crazy, 100 miles an hour for years and now I was overweight exhausted and feeling pretty low in myself.
As I started the session a voice in my head said “ would you let your client train in this state?” the answer was NO!
That was the beginning of the end.
I stayed away from the gym, in fact any form of exercise for 6 weeks, I began some meditation, walked my dog for longer, rested, slept when I wanted to, for as long as I wanted too.
I sat and had a long hard look at what was going on with my body and my life and I prescribed myself a cocktail of nutritious foods, supplements, relaxation and rest.
I had an honest look at my work life balance and how I spent my time.
After 6 weeks my energy was back and I felt more like my old self. I knew I still had a long way to go and that I needed to take it easy but if I continued as I had been and got back to exercise slowly that I was going to make it.
It was only once I recovered that I realised my downward spiral had started a long time before I had thought, in fact I could almost pinpoint the time when things had changed and it was 4 years previously.
I cannot believe that I spent 4 years trudging through treacle thinking it was normal, it’s not normal!
It’s not normal to feel like you are pushing up hill all the time.
It’s not normal to fall asleep in the middle of the park (whilst you were hanging with the other mums – true!)
I have been where you are, I know how hard it is to lose weight, I understand what a struggle it can be too look after your health as well as your family when you are trying to run a business or build a career.
I know about juggling it all in the quest to be healthy as well as successful and I also know how it can all get to much when there just isn’t enough hours in the day and the feelings of overwhelm that zap your energy and focus kick in.
I have laid awake in the middle of the night with my mind racing too (and sometimes my heart)
And I have felt the sheer exhaustion and frustration when it finally comes crashing down and your body says no more.
It’s not normal to thrash your body with brutal workouts, lack of sleep, long work hours, alcohol, anti-depressants, processed foods or any of the other toxins we think our bodies should be able to cope with.
If you recognise yourself here then please take it from me, you’re a time bomb, the day will come when your body will say enough, it will give up on you and it’s a long road back – believe me!
